Bombyx mori cocoons degummed and regummed into biocomposites sheets.

Regummed biocomposite sheets have higher toughness than B. mori cocoons since they have unidirectional fibres.

Cocoons fail through fast fracture whereas regummed biocomposites stretch and fail through interfibre shear.

Research shows that waste degummed sericin from cocoons can be reused to create cocoons in more technologically useable forms.
