Development of non-water soluble, ductile mung bean starch based edible film with oxygen barrier and heat sealability

High amylose mung bean starch (MBS) showed good film forming ability. MBS film had good tensile properties and heat sealability comparable to polyolefins. O2 barrier ability of MBS was comparable to PVDC and EVOH at low RH. MBS film must be protected from moisture, i.e. by secondary packaging. MBS film showed potential applications as food packaging for O2-sensitive products.
