Metal-free photosensitizers based on benzodithienothiophene as π-conjugated spacer for dye-sensitized solar cells

Novel benzodithienothiophene-based photosensitizers have been developed. DSSCs based on these five photosensitizers exhibited efficiencies ranging from 3.92% to 5.46%. Merit of using the di-anchoring approach to suppress the dye aggregation to inhibit of charge recombination is evidenced.
