Synthesis and characterization of the well-defined polypentadiene via living anionic polymerization of (E)-1,3-pentadiene

The successfully synthesized well-controlled polypentadiene (Ð~1.05) from petroleum-derived (E)-1,3-pentatidne has a great significance on C5 resource optimization because (E)-1,3-pentatidne is an important conjugated 1,3-diene with the capacity similar to isoprene.

The synthesized living well-defined polypentadiene indicates the overwhelming possibility of developing a serious of polypentadiene material, such as high trans-1,4-polypentadiene plastic, pentadiene-ran-styrene copolymer (like SSBR), pentadiene-alter-styrene copolymer, polystyrene-b-polypentadiene-b- polystyrene triblock TPE (like SBS/SIS) and so on.

The applied zwitterion mechanism of (E)-1,3-pentatidne was helpful to interpret the polymerization behavior and the formation of the polymer structure. Therefore, I hope this paper is suitable for “Polymer”.
