MnAl flakes with different length were prepared using a ball-milling method.

Surfactant was found to be critical to the formation of MnAl flakes.

High purity τ-MnAl flakes were prepared by annealing the textured flakes.

The coercivity of the flakes was increased than un-milled powders.
