Motor skill for tool-use is associated with asymmetries in Broca’s area and the motor hand area of the precentral gyrus in chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes)
Chimpanzee hand preference is only moderately associated with hand skill. Individual difference in hand skill are associated with asymmetry in premotor and primary cortex. Hand preference for tool use was not associated with anatomical asymmetries. Females show increased motor skill for the right hand compared to males.
