Abrasive polishing can generate nano-scratches on stainless steel to cast polymer films for cell substrates/coatings. Introducing fibroblast cells to the polymer surface having randomly organised features enhanced cell adhesion/proliferation. Surfaces generated using laser processing enhanced cell adhesion/proliferation similarly to the randomly polished surface. Cells growing on the surface having directional nano-features did not enhance cell adhesion or cell migration. The work offers potential to develop nano-textured coatings using abrasive polishing methods for biomedical implants.
