A new fluorescent probe 1 based on a 2-(benzothiazol-2-yl) phenol (HBT) derivative was synthesized and characterized. The limit of detection of probe 1 was as low as 3.78 × 10− 8 M for Cys. The probe 1 exhibited a large Stock's shifts in aqueous solution. The probe 1 was used as practical probe for imaging of Cys in living cell.
