Psychophysiological reactivity of currently dental phobic-, remitted dental phobic- and never-dental phobic individuals during exposure to dental-related and other affect-inducing materials
Exposure to fear cues evokes defensive action preparation in phobic individuals. We investigated defensive mobilization in remitted and current dental phobics. Currently phobic individuals displayed fight-flight preparation to phobic pictures. In contrast, remitted dental phobic showed no sign of defence preparation. We discuss possible underlying factors in relation to fear inhibition.
