Grain growth outpaces dynamic recrystallization (DRX) in steels if a new critical condition is met. Flow stress data alone is sufficient to determine a parameter denoting this critical condition. Final grain size is correlated with the parameter across several hot working domains. The parameter shares a fixed and material-independent relationship with onset of DRX.
