Isostructural metal-carboxylates MIL-100(M) and MIL-53(M) (M: V, Al, Fe and Cr) as catalysts for condensation of glycerol with acetone

Synthesis of solketal from glycerol and acetone was studied over MIL-100(M) and MIL-53(M) (M = V, Al, Fe, Cr). Reaction was studied at acetone/glycerol 4.5 mol/mol ratio in acetonitrile as reaction media and 70 °C. The yield of solketal depends on the type of metal and decreases as follows: V3+ > Al3+ > Fe3+ > Cr3+. The increase in V3+ content in mixed MIL-53(Al,V) leads to rise reaction rate and selectivity reaction. Activities of MIL-47(V) and MIL-100(V) were higher in compared with H2SO4, SnCl2 and p-toluenesulfonic acid at 25 °C.
