Interleukin-11 (IL-11) selectively interacts with Ca2+-bound S100P protein.
IL-11 has at least two S100P-binding sites.
Affinity of IL-11 to S100P is 5–13-fold lower compared to that for sIL-11Rα.
S100P does not affect IL-11-induced STAT3 activation in modified HEK293 cells.
This interaction is relevant to the development of drugs targeting IL-11 signaling.
