We analyzed the results of Trichinella spp. testing on wildlife in Abruzzi during 2004–2014. Overall prevalence of Trichinella infection in the region was 0.52% (IC95%, 0.4–0.6). Prevalence of infection in the wolf (27.1%) was higher than in the red fox (5.0%). Wolf’s increasing population and its scavenger behavior are presumably the determinants of this higher prevalence. The different epidemiologic situation in the Apennine and Alps regions is highlighted.
