Mechanical properties of a CrMnNi steel/Mg-PSZ-FGM processed by asymmetric Spark Plasma Sintering

A Functionally Graded Material with varying contents of a TRIP-steel and Mg-PSZ was synthesized by Spark Plasma Sintering. To densify the ceramic rich areas without melting the steel phase, a temperature gradient was generated during sintering. The temperature gradient was achieved by an asymmetric tool setup. The influence of the tool setup on microstructure, hardness and bending properties was investigated.
