GETGRATS was funded by the European Commission during five years, from September 1996 to August 2001. The aim of the project was to develop a General Theory of Graph Transformation Systems by solidifying the use of mathematics in their study and regarding them as the objects of discourse and interest. Particular emphasis was placed on the comparison, combination, and unification of the various approaches to graph rewriting.
Towards the end of the project, a closing workshop has been organized, where the members of the network were invited to present an overview of the research work done during the project. The workshop was held in Bordeaux, on June 22-23, 2001.
The present volume contains the proceedings of the GETGRATS Closing Workshop, and one additional contribution, edited by the coordinator of the network, which summarizes the main scientific achievements of the project and provides an annotated bibliography. Thus, as a whole, the volume aims at presenting a faithful account of the research activity carried by the GETGRATS members during the project.
