The study conducted in men with a low-to-moderate CVD risk assessed by FRS. Serum FGF23 levels are independently and positively associated with C-IMT. Combination of FRS with FGF23 improved the recognition rate of an elevated C-IMT. FGF23 can indicate an elevated C-IMT in presence of a low or moderate CVD risk. FGF23 strengthen the capacity of FRS for identifying subclinical atherosclerosis.
