NF ion rejection patterns and membrane ion permeances were fitted by the SEDF model.
Dominant salts were moderately (NaCl) and highly (MgCl2, MgSO4) rejected.
Trace ions (NH4+, NO3−, Br−, I−) showed variable rejection, including negative ones.
Dominant salt composition nature can be used to control the rejection of minor ions.
Trace ions rejection can be tuned by selecting solution composition.
