We studied cognitive bias measuring behaviour in an ambiguous situation. Individuals housed in pairs were more optimistic than isolated ones. Birds’ optimism was not correlated with any of the personality traits. The more males were attached to their female mate, the more optimistic they were. Cognitive bias may constitute a relevant measure of animal welfare.
