First investigation on oil shale desulfurization under staged firing. Significant reduction in SO2 emissions is obtained by limestone injection. A significant difference exists in sulfation during staged and unstaged combustion. Desulfurization efficiency is affected by oxidant-stage level. Oxyfuel technology is highly recommended for oil shale combustion.
