A macro element model which can represent nonlinearity and frequency-dependency of a shallow foundation is proposed. The proposed model is theoretically explained, which is followed by numerical verification against finite element analyses. An application example is presented. The proposed model is expected to greatly simplify the modelling process and computing time of shallow foundations.
