CO2 partitioning between CW and ‘’live’’ oil triggers the rapid formation and continued growth of a new gaseous phase. Formation of the new phase was not observed in the case of the dead oil system. The formation and growth of the new phase plays a more dominant role on improved oil recovery by CWI compared to the wettability alteration. CWI shows good potential for CO2 storage in oil reservoirs.
