This is the first report of electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra of Span, Tween, and Brij niosomes.

Like phospholipid-based liposomes, unsaturation of fatty chain increases fluidity.

Cholesterol increases fluidity of Span 80 but decreases that of Span 60 niosomes.

ESR can monitor the hydration-induced transformation of proniosome gel into niosome.

A large headgroup dramatically increases the fluidity near the headgroup as well as near the bilayer center.
