Rearrangement of collagen fibers and their structural alteration in OSF connective tissue. Increase in Young's modulus of ECM in OSF as compare to normal oral mucosa. Enhanced adhesion force and diminished deformation property with development of OSF. α-SMA positive fibroblast in OSF subepithelium suggests excessive production of ECM. Change in collagen expression correlates with AFM findings in normal and OSF tissue.
