Preschoolers with ASD show impairments in responding to joint attention behaviors (RJA). Intense facial expression or gestural pointing may enhance RJA in children on the autism spectrum. Eye-tracking shows great potential as an assessment tool for measuring RJA behavior. Empirical evidence clarifies the importance of facial expressions and gestural pointing to improving RJA skills in preschoolers with ASD.
