DNS of flow through filter plate and particle layer is performed. There are three different flow regimes, depending on Reynolds number, with different scaling. In Stokes flow regime flow resistance is decomposed in linear independent contributions. Diverging flow in packed bed gives flow resistance, which scales with fractional hole area. DNS study suggests that porous media approximation is valid.
