The energy consumption from three cane straw collecting system were analyzed. Whole-plant harvesting with straw separation showed the lowest energy consumption. This represents a diesel consumption 40% lower than the baling system and forager. Energy consumption from collecting the straw represents only 2% of the straw energy. Energy available from cane straw is greater than the energy contained in the ethanol.
