Cut-off levels of MELD score, direct and total bilirubin can predict suboptimal hepatobiliary phase (HBP) with high accuracy. Direct bilirubin ≥ 1.3 mg/dL has the highest accuracy and positive likelihood ratio for predicting suboptimal HBP. As patients with suboptimal HBP would not benefit from gadoxetate's properties, avoiding its use would decrease cost.
