A self-supporting MPL was fabricated and applied to a GDL of a PEMFC. The MPL thickness and interface of MPL/carbon paper could be controlled precisely. Carbon paper free MPL showed better performance than did the integrated GDB/MPL GDL. Low thermal conductivity of MPL would cause vapor diffusion through MPL.
