Silica coated magnetic nanoparticles were stabilized with palmitic acid. A ferrofluid based dispersive solid phase extraction method was developed for thallium (I). The method was applied for speciation of thallium in water and waste water samples. Simplicity, rapidity, selectivity, sensitivity and wide applicability are main advantages of method.
