A rapid global shift in bovine neonatal transcriptome occurs within first week post-birth that includes 110 differentially expressed immune-related genes. The IGHV1S1(BF4E9) and longest IGHD2(DH2) genes that encode bovine antibodies with exceptionally long CDR3H are preferentially expressed at birth indicating their important role in B development, selection and expansion. Unlike adult, IGKC is expressed at higher levels in the bovine neonates where IGKV12 is preferentially expressed at birth. Bovine neonate acquires innate and IgM-mediated humoral immunocompetence within first week of life.
