Impact of channel blockage on the performance of axial and cross-flow hydrokinetic turbines

3D Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations are performed on hydrokinetic turbines. Blockage corrections are proposed for axial and cross-flow hydrokinetic turbines. A link is suggested between the turbine solidity and the correction accuracy. The power extracted becomes insensitive to blockage when dynamic stall is present. To discriminate between lateral and vertical confinements is often not necessary.
