We study how familial risk of dyslexia and schooling affect phonological processing.

At-risk children show subtle behavioral deficits only after the onset of schooling.

Neurally, they present a typical pattern of hypoactivations observed in dyslexia.

Formal reading instruction (schooling) affects both behaviour and brain activation.
