A high, recreational dose of methylphenidate (MPH; 10.0 mg/kg i.p.) disrupts sexual behavior in female rats. Methylphenidate causes female rats to avoid the male stimulus during partner preference. The rate of proceptive behaviors (e.g., hops and darts) is reduced following MPH administration. Methylphenidate effects are equally robust in hormone-primed ovariectomized rats as in estrus female rats.
