Rural abandonment pose serious challenges to conservation of bio-cultural diversity. Widespread degradation processes are related to historical land management. Change analysis allow to infer the processes underlying landscape patterns. Quantitative approaches allow to assess how and when land use classes have changed. GIS-based approach provide standardised procedures for landscape changes analysis.
