Flax lignans are converted mainly into enterolactone in the rumen. Concentration of enterolactone in urine, ruminal fluid, milk and plasma increases linearly with that of flax meal in the diet. Concentration of enterolactone in the rumen 2 h postfeeding and that of milk results in the strongest positive relationship.
