The impact of sea level changes is compared with present day fault slip tendency.
Sea level changes can produce Coulomb stress changes of 0.5–1 MPa in Portugal.
Faults with low slip tendency (Vilariça, LTV) are perturbed by sea level rise.
Faults with high slip tendency (Horseshoe) are insensitive to ocean loading effects.
Sea level rise may have triggered the paleo-earthquakes in the Vilariça fault.
