A portable MIR spectrometer was investigated for in situ measurement. Quantitative estimation on soil chemical and physical properties were obtained. Qualitative information was obtained from the in situ MIR spectra. The spectra are dominated by absorptions corresponding to OM, clay minerals, water and quartz. The reproducibility of the MIR spectrometer was evaluated.
