Ultrasmall sub-5 nm SnO2 nanocrystals/carbon composites have been synthesized.

Remarkably high SnO2 loading of 87.3 wt% on carbon has been achieved.

The annealed SnO2/C composite can endure low and high current densities, resulting in excellent stability.
