Novel hexadentate chelators based on 1-hydroxy-2(1H)-pyridinone synthesised.

First hexadentate chelators based on 1-hydroxy-2(1H)-pyridinone shown to be biostatic.

Biostatic effect (minimum inhibitory concentration) measured on a range of pathogenic bacteria.

Biostatic effect compare favourably with that of most powerful Fe(III) chelator known.
