A duck reovirus (DRV) strain associated with a high mortality was isolated from Pekin ducklings in China.
18 amino acids were deleted in the sigma C protein of the virus.
The DRV isolate was identified as a member of genotype 2 waterfowl reoviruses.
The DRV inoculation in Pekin ducklings resulted in severe pathologies in liver and spleen and 20–30% mortalities.
