R-B convection of cold water in a rectangular cavity is investigated numerically. Multiple-roll flow structures and their flow branches are exhibited. The flow destabilizes more easily and becomes oscillatory in a rectangular cavity. The distribution of local Nusselt number depends on the flow patterns. The overall heat transfer ability is enhanced in a rectangular cavity.
