netic properties a

n detail. The compou
nd has two metal ce
nters bridgedby two ade
ni
nate NCN groups. The coordi
natio
n geometry of the copper(II) io
ns i
n the di
nuclear e
ntity is distortedsquare pyramidal, with the four equatorial positio
ns occupied by two phe
na
nthroli
ne N atoms a
nd two N atomsfrom differe
nt ade
ni
ne molecules. The axial positio
n is occupied by o
ne sulfo
nate O atom. Mag
netic susceptibilitydata show a
ntiferromag
netic behavior with a
n estimated excha
nge co
nsta
nt of -2
J = 65 cm
-1. The EPR spectrumhas bee
n obtai
ned at both X- a
nd Q-ba
nd freque
ncies; a study at differe
nt temperatures has bee
n carried out atthe latter. Above 20 K, the Q-ba
nd spectra are characteristic of
S = 1 species with a small zero-field splitti
ngparameter (
D = 0.0970 cm
-1). A detailed study of the DNA-complex i
nteractio
n has bee
n performed. The titlecomplex efficie
ntly cleaves the pUC18 plasmid i
n the prese
nce of reduci
ng age
