The dinuclear complex {[Tl(
6-toluene)][Au(C
6Cl

2]} (
1) displaysvery intense blue phosphorescence and a rigidochromic behaviorin the solid state. The photophysical measurements in a glassysolution display an oligomerization process via metal-metalinteractions. Density functional theory calculations show a distortionof the aurate-thallium T shape in the lowest triplet excited state, leading to a triplet metal-to-metal charge-transfer state.
