We report in this complementary theoretical鈥揺xperimental work the effect of gating on the electron transport of graphene ribbons when exposed to very low concentration of europium in an aqueous solution. We find a direct correlation between the level of concentration of europium ions in the solvent and the change in electron transport in graphene, observing a change of up to 3 orders of magnitude at the lowest level of concentration tested (0.1 mM), suggesting a possibility that graphene ribbons can be used for detecting very low concentrations of europium in liquid solutions.
