In the ethene/CO copolymerization catalyzedby palladium derivatives, species arising from etheneinsertion into the palladium-acyl bond have been shownto play a key role. We report here the synthesis, spectroscopic characterization, and X-ray structure of thecomplex [Pd{CH₂CH₂C(O)Me}(HL)][BAr'₄] (HL = 6-Me-2,2'-bipyridine, Ar' = 3,5-(CF₃)₂C₆H₃), 4, the first onehaving an ancillary N,N ligand to be characterized inthe solid state.
