The cluster-alkyne complexesRu6C(CO)15(

1:2:1-C2Me2)(2),Ru6C(CO)14(-2:2-C2Me2)(3-1:2:1-C2Me2)(3),Ru6C(CO)13(3-1:2:1-C2Me2)2(4), andRu6C(CO)12(3-1:2:1-C2Me2)3 (5) havebeen prepared from Ru6C(CO)17(1) in a stepwise fashion using chemicalactivation methods. In 3, the octahedral metal skeletoncommon to 1, 2, 4, and 5hasundergone rearrangement to a monocapped square pyramid. Themixed-alkyne cluster,Ru6C(CO)14(-2:2-C2Ph2)(3-1:2:1-C2Me2)(6), closely related to 3, has also beenprepared.The molecular structures of 3, 5, and6 have been established in the solid state bysingle-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.
