We show that much like hydrogen bonding, Ag-N coordination bondscan be reliably usedfor the construction of supramolecular networks. From asolid-state structural study of silver(I) complexes of multitopic ligands, we describe coordination networksformed in the presenceof the weakly coordinating triflate(CF3SO3-) counterion and thenoncoordinating hexafluorophosphate (PF6-) species. For complexesprepared with silver(I) triflate, counterioncoordination is characteristic. Also, for the triflate complexespresented, ditopic ligands formone-dimensional, chainlike structures and tritopic ligands form3-connected nets. A tetratopicligand also forms a 3-connected net due to the triflate-cappedsilver(I) coordination. Incontrast, more varied network topology is seen in complexes of ditopicligands prepared withsilver(I) hexafluorophosphate.
