The first bis(hydroxylamino)silanes, Me3C(R)Si(ONH2)2, R = Me (1), CMe3 (2), are isolatedfrom a two-phase reaction. They crystallize as dimers via NH···N bridges. In the reaction ofthe monosilylhydroxylamine Me3SiONH2 and the dichlorosilane Me(Me3C)SiCl2 the N,N'-bis(-O-trimethylsilyl-hydroxylamino)silane Me(Me3C)Si(NHOSiMe3)2 (4) is obtained. Starting from 1, it is now possible to synthesize the isomeric O,O'-bis(-N-trimethylsilyl-hydroxylamino)silane Me(Me3C)Si(ONHSiMe3)2 (5). The results of the crystal structure analyses of2 and 4 are reported. Quantum chemical calculations of the bis(hydroxylamino)silanes Me2Si(ONH2)2 and (Me3C)2Si(ONH2)2 are reported and discussed with particular emphasis onconformational structure.
