The novel
phos
phinite PPh

1) has been synthesized, and its coordination
pro
perties to Ag(I) havebeen studied. When reacted in a 1:1 ratio with Ag(I), coordination
polymers with different coordination numbersabout the Ag are found de
pending on the anion. For PPh
2(3-OCH
2C
5H
4N)AgBF
4 (
2), a two-coordinate Ag is observedwith a P-Ag-N angle of 167

. Mixed three and four coordination about Ag is observed for PPh
2(3-OCH
2C
5H
4N)AgOTf (
3), and for the trifluoroacetate derivative, PPh
2(3-OCH
2C
5H
4N)Agtfa (
4), only a four-coordinate Ag is
produced.X-ray crystal-structure determinations for com
pounds
2-
4 have been carried out. The X-ray structures show awide range of Ag-Ag distances in the
polymers, which are de
pendent on the conformation of the bridging ligand.
