The role of the size and texture properties of industrialcopper-on-alumina pellets for thesimultaneous removal of SO2 and NOxfrom flue gas on their behavior and kinetics of SO2captureis examined. The rate of reaction is influenced by both theintrinsic kinetics and rate of diffusionof SO2 which in turn depends on the shape and textureproperties of the pellets. A kineticmodel, derived for small beads and based on the grain model modified totake into account themechanism of SO2 capture in the form of copper- andalumina-based surface sulfate species, was used for the design of pellets and the simulation of the behaviorin fixed-bed flow reactortests. The effectiveness of the sorbent-catalyst in the captureof SO2 in flow reactor tests dependson the total volume and the mesoporous characteristics of thesamples.
